Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I’d like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how I became a gamer.
(Sometimes I crack myself up.)
It all started when I was about three-years-old. See my Dad had a SEGA Genesis that he would let my sisters and I play sometimes. Of course, I became hooked on it and would play every chance I got. I would mainly play the Sonic the hedgehog game he had for it but sometimes I would mix it up and play some Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego or Batman. After years of playing the Genesis my Dad got a Playstation 2. He got it a little late in the game but we didn’t care. When he brought home the PS2 he also brought home the first of many Ratchet & Clank games to be played in our household.
After a year or two of playing on the PS2 my sisters and I were ready for a new, brand new, system. So that christmas we all begged our parents to buy us a Wii for our present. We did the usual, “This is all you have to get us” and “It’ll be a christmas present and birthday present”. We weren’t dumb kids, we knew that our parents were having problems financially so we didn’t know if we were going to get the Wii or not until we unwrapped the box. The amount of joy and happiness in the living room that morning was incomparable. We had the biggest and stupidest looking grins on our faces. We immediately hooked the system up to the TV and got it all set up and started playing Wii Sports.
I kind of took over the Wii and living room when I started playing. I went out and got Guitar Hero 3, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex Edition. Yes, yes, I played Call of Duty on the Wii for a while, a long while. It was fun. Playing CoD on the Wii was what shaped me into the gamer I am today, it also killed my grades in school. I played on the Wii all the way through Modern Warfare 3. I had made some really good friends and had many great times but I decided that it was time for a change, so I went out and got an Xbox 360. I didn’t play on the 360 for very long, maybe a few months. I played some Halo, Battlefield, and MW2 on the 360 but because I was a broke high schooler I didn’t have the money for LIVE. So, I took my 360 to GameStop and traded it and all my games for a used Playstation 3 Slim. I got MW3 for so I could play CoD until Black Ops 2 came out. I played on the PS3 all through high school.
When the Playstation 4 was announced I was ready to upgrade then and there, but again money was issue. After a month or two I didn’t know if even wanted to upgrade to the PS4 or not. If I upgraded I would have to get rid of all of my games and stuff I had on my PS3, years of progress. I though for a long time and finally made up my mind and decided to upgrade. So, in September I unhooked my PS3 and packed it all up with all the cables, controllers, and games and took it to my local GameStop. GameStop gave me a pretty good deal for it, I only had to play about $200 for the PS4 and Destiny.
On a little side note. I have been playing Pokemon on Nintendo handheld systems since I was in the sixth grade. Heading into GameStop today to pick up my copy of Omega Ruby!
